The Bleeding Continues
THE DIEPPE RAID PART II
- The tanks that miraculously made it through were soon stopped by concrete blocks, strategically placed by the cunning Germans.
- Soon these 2 battalions were massacred, as they were trapped in the front of the town. They were especially hit from deadly cross fire from machine guns in sniper positions hidden in the cliffs.
- There was a support fire presence from the naval destroyers, but unfortunately they were too weak to have any significant effect.

- At 7:00 am, Canadian Major General Roberts cannot obtain a solid visual of the fight because of smoke screen laid by a ships in support of the landing boats. As a result, he is unable to witness the massacre of Allied soldiers on the shore. He also receives some awfully incorrect intel (The Essex Regiment was successful)
- Thinking he can "nail the coffin" of the Germans, he makes the vital mistake of activating 2 reserve units, the Les Fusiliers Mont Royal, and the Royal Marine Commando.

- Finally, at 11:00 am, the withdrawal of all Allied troops begins.
- By 1:00pm, the withdrawal is complete of the bloodiest battle for Canada in World War II.
- The beaches of Dieppe were filled with bloodied bodies as the sea turned to red as the tide crept in.

- The Les Fusiliers Mont Royal were dropped in the centre area of the main beach of Dieppe, and while putting up a solid fight, they were eventually pinned down under the cliffs.
- This caused Roberts to send the Royal Marine Commando to land ship and support.
- The RMC were torn apart upon reaching the blood soaked shore, and were either killed or captured.
- The town center was heavily defended by the Germans as they utilized machine guns, mortars, artillery and tactically placed pill boxes.
