CONSEQUENCES

FOR THE ALLIED FORCES, THE CONSEQUENCES DEFINITELY OUTWEIGHED THE PROS AS THE LARGE AMOUNT OF DEATHS, THE BOOSTED CONFIDENCE OF THE GERMANS AND THE OVERALL FEELING OF LOW MORALE AMOUNTED UP TO A FAILURE OF THE DIEPPE RAID.  HOWEVER, ONE MUST GO BACK A BIT IN HISTORY FOR THE TRUE BACKGROUND OF THE DIEPPE RAID.

Lessons Learned

Lesson learned that for future raids the following must be accounted for: strong air support, strategic land invasion, and intense gun support from the moment the raid begins. (Some would say these components are common knowledge that should've been thoroughly thought out before the raid.)

A basic list would be:

-The need for preliminary artillery support, including aerial bombardment;[9]
-The need for a sustained element of surprise;
-The need for proper intelligence concerning enemy fortifications;
-The avoidance of a direct frontal attack on a defended port city; and,

-The need for proper re-embarkation craft.

Consequences By The Numbers

- 3367 / 5000 Canadians killed, injured or captured
- 247 / 1000 British Commandos killed
- Royal Navy lost HMS Berkeley and 33 landing aircraft, 550 dead and injured
- RAF lost 106 aircraft
- Loss at Dieppe possibly influenced victory at the Battle of Normandy
